Last week we took a look at the Actions Panel in Illustrator CS3 and how we could use some of Illustrator’s built-in actions to help us improve our everyday workflow.
In this week’s episode (per user request) we take a look at how to create our own simple Action in Adobe Illustrator. I find this extremely useful for adding in functionalities, such as on the fly opacity change, that Illustrator lacks. Hopefully after watching this you have a better understand of what an Illustrator Action is, and how you can create your own to help you improve your skills.

Everyone is always looking for that competitive edge when it comes to the world of creative media. In this episode of Gradient Mesh we take a look at one of the little-known features of Adobe Illustrator, the Actions Panel, which is sure to help you gain that competitive edge.
Many people use Actions on a daily basis in Photoshop, but very few people even know it exists inside of Illustrator. The best part about the Actions Panel in Illustrator is that it is identical in terms of look and functionality to its counterpart in Photoshop!

Taking a page from the book of Quicktips, in this episode of Gradient Mesh we take a look at how you can quickly and easily create a reference chart that displays every single keyboard shortcut associated with Adobe Illustrator. This method is not as polished or fancy as the styled web page you get within Photoshop but it definitely serves its purpose. This is a great little tool to have when you really need to know that obscure keyboard shortcut.

You asked for it, and you got it! Finally, Seeley Media has a podcast devoted to nothing but Adobe Illustrator! This will be very similar to the Photoshop Quicktips Podcast in that it will be produced weekly and feature a new 5-10 minute tutorial showing how to accomplish specific tasks and effects in Illustrator.
In this, the first episode of Gradient Mesh, we are going to take a look at how to create realistic reflections using some very quick and easy techniques. You’ll notice that I am working in Illustrator CS3 for this tutorial, but have no fear because all of the steps are completely applicable to Adobe Illustrator CS2 as well. If/when I cover a technique that is CS3-specific, I will notify you ahead of time and also try and give you the CS2 version as well.
